Herbig-Haro Objects: Shock Waves, Herbig-Haro Objects: Jets, Herbig-Haro Objects: Kinematics

Herbig-Haro objects are believed to correspond to the emission from shock waves formed in high velocity outflows from young stars. A short review of shock wave models is presented, and a considerably more detailed discussion of what kind of flows could produce these shock waves is then carried out. Particular attention is devoted to models of the group of Herbig-Haro objects known as "stellar jets", and a discussion of the collimation mechanism, propagation and interaction with the environment of jet-like flows is presented. Finally, possible comparisons between predictions from hydrodynamic models and observations of Herbig-Haro objects are illustrated with a description of models and observations of HH 1.
