A standard problem of astronomical imaging is the estimation of and proper correction for background signal(s). A typical solution is to subtract a 2-D surface fitted to selected areas. However, this treatment only accounts for low spatial frequency variations and leaves the high frequency noise unaltered. There are various situations where this is insufficient. For instance, non-linear deconvolution techniques usually demand that the background be 1) positive and 2) as small as possible. Fulfilment of these two conditions requires modeling also the high frequency component of the background. In this contribution, two methods for the solution of the problem are described.
