The analogies between interstellar matter and dust in the solar system (both interplanetary and cometary) are discussed. This is possible, not only because some interstellar particles survived the formation of the solar system and are locked in interplanetary dust, but because the physical processes to which cometary and interplanetary dust are subjected are very similar to those at work in interstellar clouds. The difficulties involving the comparison, the isotopic composition and the organic component are presented.
