In the presentation titled "Feasibility Study of Mars Exploration Missions", a brief outline of NASDAs study of Mars exploration missions is discussed. NASDA has been developing earth orbiting satellites. To utilize the H-II rocket in other space activities, NASDA and the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science are studying jointly the development of lunar exploration satellites. In addition, we have recently begun research into exploration of planets beyond the Moon. In this effort, we are now studying what can be achieved by this exploration and what technologies are needed to perform such missions. In 1996, two years ago in August, the Administrator of NASA and the Director General of Japan's Science and Technology Agency agreed to work jointly on a Mars exploration mission. NASDA has since begun initial research based on their agreements.
