The HEGRA scintillator and Cherenkov light counters allow to determine the energy and coarse chemical composition of charged cosmic rays in the energy range between 1014 eV and 1016 eV. The energy spectrum obtained from HEGRA data shows a gradual steepening around 3 PeV. No abrupt change in the chemical composition is noticeable.
