Although dense stellar systems such as globular clusters have long been known to be overabundant per unit mass in X-ray binaries, it is only recently that theory and observations have begun to converge on a basic understanding of the formation and evolution of such systems in dense stellar environments. I will discuss what we have learned about their formation, and describe what observations of their populations have taught us about the properties of the clusters in which they reside.
