Multi-messenger astronomy will be at the forefront of astrophysics and astroparticle physics during the coming decade and will provide the tools to constrain the physical properties of cosmic accelerators, and identify the sources of the highest-energy particles in the universe. Recent results from the Pierre Auger Observatory on anisotropies of the highest energy cosmic rays provide the first glimpse into the novel field of charge particle astronomy, and already suggest various ways with which such observations can be integrated in multi-wavelength, multi-messenger studies of the highest-energy astrophysical systems.
