We report a CCD observation of IRAS 04139+2737, located in the dark cloud B209 (LD1495) in Taurus. On the red print of the Palomar Sky Atlas, it appears as a small nebulous object. Its infrared colors suggest it to be either a young stellar object associated with reflection nebulosity or a galaxy. Analysis of the surface brightness distribution strongly indicates a spiral galaxy far beyond the local system. Assuming an axially symmetric structure, we found the face-on brightness to follow the de Vaucouleurs law in the central part and the exponential law S(r) = SO exp(-r/RI), where Ri = 17 and SO = 19.9 Im/arcsec2. Total luminosity within the 22.5 Im/arcsec2 contour is 13.6 Im. These are the results of the I-band photometry using SAO-056148 as standard. Since the luminosity profile shows the characteristics of late-type spirals, we take the blue light luminosity scale for the exponential disk to be SO= 21.65 B/arcsec2 and the absolute B magnitude to be -18. Taking account of interstellar extinction of about av =2 mag,we obtain a distance of 40Mpc and an intrinsic color of (B-I)o=2.4. The size of the bulge is then 1.4kpc and the length scale of the disk is 3.3kpc. These results are consistent with the object being a late-type spiral galaxy.
