Scientific paper

Results of spectral observations of the nova-like binary UX UMa carried
out in 1977 - 1980 are presented. Basing on all available observational
data it is shown that spectral time variations can be explained by the
presence of an extended envelope in the system besides the usual disk. A
prediction is made that X-ray outbursts could be observed in UX UMa.
