Classical reseau techniques are revived in the hope of acquiring positions to good accuracy with original Palomar Schmidt plates. It is noted that the method is simple and very inexpensive and that it uses products that are commercially available. It is found that if 15 or more standard stars are used, accuracy of better than about 3 arcsec (rms) is possible. The method presented is therefore seen as suitable for deriving positions to moderately good accuracy of large numbers of objects in a reasonable period of time. It is concluded that the accuracy attainable at present is sufficiently good that, when coupled with color, magnitude, and morphological information, it will permit unambiguous identification of candidate quasars in uncrowded fields such as those currently under investigation at high galactic latitude.
