Fifty-one candidate luminous field stars from the SLS catalogue, 30 stars in the young open cluster NGC 2414, 13 in a new mini-cluster Wat 7, and six additional stars, all within ˜1° of the H II regions S299/300 at l 231°.0, b ˜1°.5, have been observed spectroscopically and photometrically. Nine new members were found in NGC 2414 for a total of 19, and eight members identified in Wat 7. Twenty-nine OB stars appear to lie in an association at a distance of 4.2 ± 0.2 kpc, the same as NGC 2414. The association contains more massive, possibly younger stars than NGC 2414. The remaining stars appear to lie along the line- of- sight in the Orion arm with possible concentrations of 12 0 and B stars, and six G to K bright giants and supergiants (within a diameter of 8 arcmin) at 2.5 ± 0.2 kpc from the Sun. The distribution of these spiral tracers fits the general optical picture of spiral features towards the galactic anticentre.
