Observational and statistical aspects of the occurrence of supernovae are considered. The compilation of the supernova catalog at the Asiago Observatory is discussed in relation to the numbers and type distributions of supernovae observed since 1880. The morphology of supernova light curves is examined on the basis of systematic observations of about 50 supernovae, and it is noted that photometric observations may be used to assign or confirm supernova types. The frequencies of type I and type II supernovae in the various types of galaxies are compared, and observations of supernova made outside the visual region of the spectrum are discussed, including those made in the IR, UV, radio and X-ray ranges.
