We present the latest numerical MHD simulations of the breakout model for coronal mass ejections in 3-dimensions. We will emphasize features of the model and simulation results that are uniquely associated with "magnetic breakout", and briefly review the more generic features that are common to almost all CME initiation models. Specifically, we will focus on the multi-polar topology and the breakout reconnection at the distorted null-point high in the corona, as the process responsible for the eruption and will attempt to draw some conclusions about possible observational signatures. We will also quantify the energetics of the eruption and show the restraining overlying field is critical in order to build up sufficient energy for a catastrophic, fast eruption of low-lying sheared flux.
