Observations of seven T Tauri stars made by the Imaging Proportional Counter on board the Einstein Observatory are presented. In observations made in the high energy band (0.5-4.0 keV) and the low-energy band (0.20-0.28 keV), only Th 12 was detected at hard energies, and none were detected at lower energies. An intrinsic X-ray luminosity of 6 x 10 to the 30th ergs/sec is derived for the star, which corresponds to 100,000 times the luminosity of the quiet sun. Upper limits of 10 to the 31st ergs/sec are placed on the luminosities of the remaining stars in the total energy band, which are much less than theoretical predictions. It is suggested that the absence of X-ray emission from these stars is due to envelope absorption, and that the X-ray emission observed in T Tauri stars originates in flare-like events.
