Dwarf galaxies are characterized by properties which range from low surface brightness to the high surface brightness blue compact objects. The stochastic self-propagating star formation (SSPSF) model predicts that small systems can undergo a fluctuation which will completely stop propagation of star formation; the small galaxies will be restricted to star formation in a bursting mode of short-lived episodes during SSPSF. The bursting mode produces a star formation rate which varies with time leading to the diverse properties of dwarf galaxies.
