Evidence that relatively strong spiral galaxies end near the 4/1 resonance is presented. The termination is due to a gap in the distribution of the orbits of stars near this resonance; beyond the 4/1 resonance the orbits are not in phase with the imposed spiral. Only weak spirals, in which nonlinear effects are unimportant, can extend up to corotation. On the other hand bars terminate near corotation, but their termination is due mainly to stochasticity, an effect which is unimportant in relatively tight spiral galaxies, because the amplitude of the potential perturbation is much smaller in them than in bars.
