The authors present observations of the luminous star cluster in the center of the amorphous galaxy NGC 1705 described by Sandage (1978). The cluster is found to have a mean spectral type at blue wavelengths of B3 V and an absolute magnitude MB = -15.4 that makes it the most luminous star cluster known. The properties of this "super star cluster" are found to fit nicely current ideas about violent star formation.
