Reliable data on lithium depletion on the main sequence being provided by recent measurements in the Hyades, give the possibility of building a consistent model of the depletion mechanism. Turbulent diffusion mixing is a good candidate. A coefficient DTurb = Re* V submitted to the temperature and density dependence of the viscosity v, does not represent properly the mass dependence of the lithium depletion. A relation DTurb = ∝ (V ad -Vrad)-1, suggested by the hydrodynamical model of the generation of a mild turbulence in radiatively stable layers of slowly rotating stars (Zahn, 1983), gives the correct mass dependence for the Hyades. It is also compatible with lithium depletion in the Sun and in field stars.
