Stimulated by the recent progress in the exploration of magnetic degenerate stars, we have extended our previous very accurate calculations of the magnetised hydrogen problem to higher excited states. We here present comprehensive results for the wavelengths and dipole strengths of stationary components of Ly α , Hα , HΒ, Hγ, and Paschen γ in the range of magnetic fields that is of importance for white dwarfs. Comparing with the spectrum of Grw + 70°8247 - not understood for decades - we find an amazing agreement between all observed spectral features and the computed wavelengths of stationary transitions of hydrogen in magnetic fields of 150-350 MG. In this way we can confirm previous identifications, and explain other features. In addition, we are able to predict a variety of further stationary points which should give rise to observable absorption lines in magnetic fields up to 1500 MG.
