Correlations are made of albedo with iron content and color index with titanium content, and a method is proposed for determining the approximate chemical composition of lunar rocks from their optical characteristics. Correlations with different minerals are plotted, rough approximations are made of their distributions in three areas of the moon, and the approximations for one area are compared with data gathered by Apollo 16 at that site. It is shown that if the method is sufficiently refined, it may be used to determine rock types in different lunar regions and the surface-content distribution of various chemical components.
