Results of photometric processing of television pictures of Mars obtained in the UV, blue, green, and red spectral regions are reported which indicate a connection between the 'blue clearing' effect and the appearance of dust clouds above light regions on the planet. These results are shown to confirm Prokof'eva's (1972) hypothesis regarding the dust nature of blue clearings. According to this hypothesis, the illusion of blue clearing results from an increase in the brightness of light regions on Mars when dust clouds appear above them.
