Formation depths for the lines in the weak bands of the violet system of the CN molecule (4216 A) are calculated using the method of weighting functions and two models of the solar atmosphere. It is found that lines with different vibrational and rotational quantum numbers are formed practically in the same layer and that the difference between formation depths of a line center and wing is not large. Contribution functions for the center of the solar disk are shown to differ slightly from those for the limb. The present calculations are found to be in good agreement with results of previous observations.
