The asymptotic behavior is studied of the kernel function of the integral equation describing radiative transfer in a plane-parallel medium moving perpendicular to the layers with a constant velocity gradient, gamma; it is assumed that there is complete frequency redistribution in the comoving frame of reference. Doppler and power profiles of the absorption coefficient are considered. The asymptotic behavior of characteristic lengths (mean free path of a photon, thermalization length in an infinite medium, and boundary layer thickness in a semiinfinite medium with uniformly distributed primary sources) is examined for these profiles, assuming gamma to be much less than unity. The study has astrophysical applications, e.g., to radiative transfer in nebulae and stellar atmospheres.
