Consideration is given to the development of methodological principles for the study of variations in cosmic ray parameters, with reference to a number of observations and theoretical results. Particular approaches to the observation and analysis of cosmic ray variations are classified according to the places of origin of cosmic rays in the atmosphere, the magnetosphere, interplanetary space and extragalactic regions. Some potential applications of spectrography to the study of atmospheric and geomagnetic cosmic ray variations are identified.
