The stratification of the Luna-24 regolith core is described. Soil from this site near the Mare Crisium is found to differ significantly from soil in the Mare Fecunditatis area; the Luna-24 soil has a lighter color and less-developed maturity as well as a greater diversity of lithologic types of particles. The examination of sample rock characteristics and mineral compositions indicates the complexity of the landing site geology and the cyclic character of the formation of the studied regolith.
