To encourage and support widespread astronomical observations during the IYA2009, we have prepared an extensive planning calendar of naked-eye, binocular, and telescopic highlights of the sky in 2009. In addition to the targets that Galileo himself looked at in the early 1600s, we call attention to other suitable observing targets for public star parties, including those featured in NASA's IYA2009 program.
