Self-absorption of the (1, 0) 1510 A band of CO in the upper atmosphere
of Mars was calculated, with allowance for the 'hot' and 'cold' glow
components and the effects of CO2 absorption. The calculations agree
well with Mariner data for a CO/CO2 ratio of 1% at a height of 135 km.
