ESA's Cos-B satellite, which has been operating in orbit for three times the expected duration at launch, is described, and this success, coupled with the high standard of performance, is discussed. The satellite has detected gamma rays from molecular clouds, pulsars and quasars, and has thoroughly mapped the Galaxy. Results are presented for gamma rays, from the Galaxy, extragalactic gamma rays, localized gamma ray sources, gamma ray pulsars, and X-ray measurements. The satellite, launched in August 1975, should continue to obtain scientific measurements into the first half of 1982, until the spark-chamber gas is exhausted.
