A description is presented of a mathematical formalism capable of searching for and studying multimode stable pulsators. The method involved differs considerably from the iterative method employed in recent attempts to understand double-mode pulsations. Attention is given to a simple analytical example of a double-mode pulsator, which exhibits some of the structure of a real pulsator. The behavior of the simple model is used as a basis for a speculation why numerical hydrodynamic searches for a double-mode pulsation are unlikely to be successful. The conducted analysis involves a generalization of a two-time method which has been successfully applied to monomode oscillators. It is found that the existence of double-mode limiting pulsation does not necessarily require the presence of internal resonances.
