Observations are reported which show that intense broad permitted lines have appeared in the spectrum of PKS 0521-36, a radio galaxy which in the past could be classified as a BL Lac object on the basis of its variable and polarized optical continuum and its weak narrow emission line spectrum. The full width at zero intensity of H-alpha emission lines is about 120 A.
