The energy spectra of the galactic cosmic rays from Be to Ni are measured between 0.7 and 30 GeV/nuc using the HEAO-3 French-Danish instrument. It is shown that when measuring the absolute spectra, the geomagnetic field does not transmit particles with rigidity below a certain cut-off value. Corrections for the cut-off variation, which distorts the measured spectra, are discussed. A Monte Carlo simulation of the signal response of three Cerenkov counters (teflon, aerogel block, and aerogel sand) is used to calculate the average momentum of the particles within each signal channel. The spectra for Fe, Ni, and Co nuclei are obtained and by most standards of comparison the agreement between the individual spectra is excellent. The flattened spectra of primary and secondary nuclei are illustrated in a graph.
