On the premise that protogalactic eddies are generated through discontinuous supersonic motions in the metagalactic medium during the nonlinear growth phase of gravitational instability, a model is constructed for the gas-dynamical interaction of an isolated, galactic-scale density fluctuation with a protocluster-scale shock front. The spatial structure of the vorticity engendered by this interaction is analyzed. The observable consequences for the orientation of spiral galaxies belong to pairs, groups, and clusters are discussed.
