The author recently observed that the crystals of a solid solution series ("Mischkristalle") in "hypidiomorphic-granular" igneous rocks are of a uniform structure. Crystals of a solid solution series, but with a zone structure, often occur as porphyritic crystals, older than the "hypidiomorphic-granular" mineral assemblages. As a rapidly growing crystal of a solid solution series during sinking temperature develops into a zone built crystal, in which each temperature calls forth a crystallized product of a definite composition, the composition of each crystal zone of a crystal belonging to a solid solution series has arisen at a definite temperature. An entirely homogeneous crystal of a solid solution series must therefore have crystallized at a constant temperature. The author concludes that the "hypidiomorphic-granular structure" of a rock has been formed by growth of the crystal components at a constant temperature, and that the crystallization of the rock has taken place as a result of a rise of pressure in the magmachamber, not owing to a drop in temperature.
