We report on a search for extended ionization and reflection nebulae around nova remnants and their shells. We use the excellent imaging capacities of the WIYN telescope for this project. We have detected at this stage only one ionization nebula around a classical nova, and one associated with a nova-like variable. We discuss the peculiar characteristics of these nebulae and possible reasons for which they are not detected more often. Extended reflection nebulae are also very interesting as probes of the white dwarf temperature and characteristics. We show the example of V838 Mon.
