For the infrared sources L 1551 IRS 5, HH-7-11 SVS 13, GL 490, GL 2591, NGC 2071 IRS, GL 961, and Cep A, all associated with bipolar CO outflows, and for the T Tauri stars HL Tau and DG Tau, showing optical jets, polarimetric observations are presented and discussed. The infrared polarization tends to be perpendicular to the axis of the bipolar CO outflows. These results give strong evidence that the polarization in this class of objects is produced by scattering in bipolar structures and that the central sources are heavily obscured by equatorial dust disks or tori, seen nearly edgewise. This model is supported by two objects, GL 2591 and Cep A, for which spatially resolved polarimetric observations are discussed. The CO out flows under discussion tend to have their axis parallel to the interstellar magnetic field. This result gives further evidence that magnetic fields play an important role for the cloud collapse and for the formation of disks or tori around young stars.
