The statistical origin of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy can be interpreted by starting from first principles and without resorting to any additional hypothesis, namely, the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a Schwarzschild black hole can be derived by counting the microstates of vacuum fluctuations occurring at the horizon, which is based on two key points: 1) the gravitational interaction provides a limit on the traditional Heisenberg uncertainty relations associated with an energy fluctuation of {\Delta}E; 2) the phase space induced by all possible vacuum fluctuations is not a conventional one, but rather an extended phase space with the symplectic form of dt\bigwedge dE.
