Differences between parent populations of Antarctic and non-Antarctic meteorites were examined on the basis of literature data on their chemical composition, petrological and mineralogical characteristics, isotopic and noble gas compositions, and thermoluminescence characeristics. Particular attention is given to the relevance of the terrestrial age difference between Antarctic and non-Antarctic meteorites on the observed differences and to the occurrence in Antarctica of rare meteorites and of meteorites that have not been found at all in the non-Antarctic meteorite population. It is shown that variable trace element abundances and distinct differences in the thermal history and thermoluminescence characteristics of Antarctic meteorites can be interpreted as being preterrestrial in origin. Such differences imply the existence of meteoroid streams, the evidence of which was found by several independent studies.
