New images of the moon taken by the Galileo spacecraft expand the understanding of lunar geology. Shown for the first time, through spectral techniques, is the mineralogical composition of the lunar crust on the far side. A color mosaic is constructed from images obtained with Galileo's solid-state imaging system. The probe's solid-state imaging system gathered key data for studying ozone depletion.
