Results are presented on spectroscopic observations of several selected regions of Jupiter, carried out during the 1988 Jupiter opposition at the coude focus of the 1.52-m telescope at Calar Alto Observatory (Spain). The obtained north-south scans showed a slight increase in methane-6190 A and ammonia-6450 A absorption in belts, with respect to nearby zones; the center-to-limb variations in the equivalent widths of these absorption features showed an asymmetric shape, with the absorption being greater to the west than to the east for any given fractional radius. These variations in the CH4-6190 A and NH3-6450 A absorption bands across the Jovian disk were analyzed using sophisticated two-cloud models.
