The main force and parametric actions on oscillations in the Earth-Moon system are compared. Parametric excitations due to external periodic changes in the distance between the Earth’s and Moon’s centers of mass occur in a limited number of frequency intervals. We demonstrate the role of a nonlinear parameter that limits the oscillation amplitudes, and compute the frequency interval for excitations near the Chandler frequency.
