Over the next three years, the Deep Extragalactic Evolutionary Probe 2 (DEEP2) project will survey four separate 2 degree times 0.5 degree regions of the sky and obtain high-resolution spectra for about 60,000 galaxies in the redshift range z = 0.75 - 1.5. Beyond simply measuring redshifts, these high-resolution spectra will allow measurement of a wide variety of galaxy properties for comparison to local samples and permit studies of the evolution of large-scale structure. In this talk, we describe the overall design and scientific goals of the DEEP2 survey.
