The detection and study of translucent clouds is necessary to understand the nature of the interstellar matter and constrain the existing chemical models. The combination of FUSE, HST/STIS with medium and high-resolution optical data allows us to characterize both the atomic (i.e. CI, NI, OI, SI, MgII, FeII, CuII, NiII) and molecular content (CO; H2: Rachford et al. 2002, ApJ 577, 221; C2: Thorburn et al. 2002 ApJ, in press or C3: Oka et al. 2002, ApJ in press) of a given line of sight. We discuss the techniques used to account for unresolved saturated components, examine the gas content and search for translucent components along often complicated lines of sight. Recent results stemming from such approach will be presented and discussed. P.S. acknowledges NASA contract NAS5-32985 to JHU.
