Chandra observed the narrow-emission line galaxy NGC 5506 with both the HETGS and ACIS-S3 instruments, and the results from high resolution spectroscopic and imaging analysis of this X-ray luminous active galaxy are presented in this poster. With the HETGS spectrum, the properties of the intrinsic absorption, high and low ionization emission lines, and complex Fe emission are revealed. We discuss the constraints on the relative contributions of emission from ionized and neutral plasmas and the reflection component to the complex nuclear spectrum. With the high-resolution ACIS images, Chandra confirms the ROSAT HRI detection of kiloparsec-scale emission perpendicular to the disk of the galaxy and coincident with the ionization cone evident in narrow-band optical and radio continuum imaging. We also investigate the significance of the diffuse emission to the soft excess noted from ASCA spectral analysis. In addition, an off-nuclear point source with X-ray luminosity greater than 1039 erg s-1 is detected in the disk of the edge-on host galaxy, consistent with the population of ultraluminous X-ray sources found in other star-forming galaxies. This work is supported by NASA through contract NAS8-01129.
