For the past 10 years the SkyView virtual telescope has provided astronomers and the general public with a unique capability to generate images from survey datasets in all wavelength regimes from the radio through the optical. SkyView allows users to select the projection and scale of the data. It automatically mosaics survey tiles and provides several resampling options. Data from different surveys can be easily compared, and the positions of catalog objects and observations may be overlaid. SkyView now provides links to several terabytes of data. Smaller surveys' data are served locally but larger datasets, e.g., the DSS2 and 2MASS use remote links. This paper discusses the evolution of SkyView, its role as a precursor of the NVO and its future in an increasingly interlinked world. New surveys and capabilities including the ability to distribute elements of the system and a new efficient flux-conserving resampling are described.
