Meteors: Orbits
Scientific paper
The following peculiarities of hyperbolic orbits of photographic meteors with heliocentric velocities Vh > 50 km/sec are revealed: 1) the relative number of hyperbolic orbits with i > 90° decreases with increasing of the lower limit of Vh for a meteor sample. All meteors with Vh > 57 km/sec have the direct motion; 2) the most of hyperbolic meteors are observed near the perihelion of their orbits. It is shown that the revealed peculiarities contrast not only with the hypothesis of interstellar origin of the hyperbolic meteors but also with any other one of their natural origin. The authors suggest that all more pronounced hyperbolic meteors are the result of errors in the determination of their radiants.
