The Crab is the brightest pulsar known in the optical and the only one studied in detail with visible light. Its light curve and spectral properties are nowadays very well characterized. Long term follow-up of the emission of the main peak has provided tentative clues on the structure of the neutron star. This article gives an updated review on the properties of the optical emission of the Crab pulsar.
