Scientific paper

A theorem is given which states that, under certain conditions, local symmetries can be extended to global symmetries on spacetimes. The types of local symmetries considered are isometries, homotheties, affine coollineations, and conformal collineations. The proof given here does not depend on the dimension of the manifold in question nor on the signature of the metric it carries.
