A theoretical understanding is provided of flows induced into geologic materials upon meteoroid impact at velocities appropriate to collisions in the zone of terrestrial planets. These results are meant to provide a basis for interpreting the features associated with meteorite impact craters and their ejecta distributions on the terrestrial planets, as well as to provide some insights into the late stages of planetary accretion. The problem of computing the initial one dimensional shock states associated with different velocity impacts was addressed and the impact velocities required for melting and vaporization were determined for a number of minerals and rocks. The problem of computing impact-induced flows was also examined.
