X-ray observations of 3U 1957+40 (Cyg A region) by the two instruments on board ANS are reported. The intensity recorded by the Utrecht instrument (SXX) is consistent with the Uhuru strength. The spectrum and intensity also agree with results from the Copernicus satellite observations. However, no measurable flux was recorded by the Cambridge instrument (HXX) in the same energy range as SXX but with a smaller field of view. Thus if 3U 1957+40 is a point source, its declination is not within 6 arcmin of Cyg A. Alternatively, the emission region may be extended and originate in the cluster of galaxies near Cyg A.
