An optimal curve-fitting method based on the Baade-Wesselink approach is discussed which retains the notion of integrating the radial-velocity curve of a Cepheid variable. In this method, the observed radial-velocity curve is approximated by a Fourier series, radial position is related to photospheric radius, the photosphere is associated with some apparent magnitude at a given effective wavelength, and effective temperature is related to the brightness temperature at the effective wavelength. An optimization procedure is described, and the equations and methods are applied to two classical Cepheids, Delta Cep and Eta Aql, by optimizing unreduced six-color photometric data. It is shown that the information derivable from photometric observations of classical Cepheids with available radial-velocity curves is essentially characterized by the values of six parameters which together are capable of reproducing the form of the photometric curves to within expected accuracies. The role of each of these parameters is briefly summarized.
